As is always the case, January makes a great time to reflect on the year that has just ended, and to look forward to the New Year and all of the opportunities it brings. 2015 was a brilliant year for nexus Dental, and yet I am certain that it was only the beginning, and that 2016 can only get better for the team, the lab and our clients.
Opening my own lab has always been my dream, and I was finally able to realise that dream in 2015. It has been hard work, and there have been long hours, but it has always been rewarding, and I am so proud of how far the lab has come already. 2015 continued to teach me the importance of having a great team, and I am lucky to have Iain, Lisa, and our new addition to the team, Gareth, working with me to produce the work we do. The past year also showed me that having a great relationship with clients and suppliers is essential, and this will always be at the core of everything nexus does.
When I think of what we have achieved in just 5 months it is truly incredible. To hit the ground running with a new team, and completely new purely digital workflow is a big achievement, and would not have been possible without the right people working together, both within the lab, and those clients that chose to seek us out and work with us from the very beginning.
The Christmas break was great, and I believe well-deserved for all of the staff, but now it’s time to get back to work, and we can’t wait. Some may say I’m biased, and they’re probably right, but I believe the work we produced last year was of top standard, and some pieces were exceptional. But as always we have been presented with some very tricky cases where we had to look again, and find a better solution for the patient, which we luckily have because of our pro active supplier and partners who work hard to help us find the right materials and solutions, some of which were exclusive to us due to them being in pre release at that time. We’re now ready to keep maintaining that level through this year and beyond, and continuing to challenge ourselves, so that we’re delivering only the very best for our clients and their patients.
Alongside the commitments to the lab, I still regularly travel up and down the country, visiting other professionals, and lecturing when I can. As well as this, I have my commitments to the DLA Executive Board, and to the Council of the ADI. I’m frequently told that I’m too busy, and my honest answer is always, ‘I know’. This isn’t something I’d want to change though, as every aspect of my job is worthwhile, and keeps me satisfied.
As ever, a huge thank you is due to my family and my friends, who have all supported me every step of the way on the journey to opening my own dental laboratory. My gratitude is immense, and the job would have been so much harder were it not for the encouragement they have always given me.
Moving forward, I anticipate some great years ahead, some grey hair ahead, and likely plenty of coffee, but that’s all part of the fun!
From the whole team at nexus, we want to wish you a very Happy New Year, and all the best for 2016.
